You’ve come to the right place! We are looking forward to welcoming you to our #CoachAcademy 4-day retreat in Alicante from the 1st-4th March 2024. You’ll be working with Olympic silver medallist Javier Bosma and Volleyball England Staff Tutor and FIVB World Tour player Sam Dunbavin over 4 days of hands-on coach practice.
All coaches will leave with a Fireball coaches’ polo, a camp certificate and a progress plan developed with our tutors with notes on how to improve their coaching.
For 2024 we have included an optional accommodation and food package to the #CoachAcademy programme. This would include three nights’ accommodation with breakfast and lunch at the 3-star Castilla Hotel, just a 5 minute walk from the courts. More details below.
For those that want to we are offering the opportunity to obtain the Volleyball England Assistant Coach Award during the camp. (TBC)

The graphic below shows a rough timetable for our coach academy 2024! The times will be tailored specifically to fit with conditions on the day, and we may move elements around depending on participants’ wishes.
There are lots of opportunities to get stuck in. There’s a mixture of ‘coach modelling’ by our expert coaches, theory sessions and practical sessions coached by you. Coaches are expected to take turns playing, but we can accommodate non-players too.
One one of the days we will bring in a group of juniors and beginners for coaches to practise coaching.
Hotel Castilla is a fantastic 3* hotel set just in from the sea at Playa San Juan, in Alicante. The hotel has a swimming pool, single, double, triple and family rooms, and is just a short walk away from the beach.
Coaches who opt for the full package get half board accommodation (breakfast and lunch) and would share a superior twin room with another coach.
Anyone wishing to have an individual room can do so for an extra £100 – please email us to request this.
You can also upgrade to a premium room on request for an extra fee – please contact us if you want more details.
If you would like a triple or family room, please contact us.
To see more about the hotel, you can head to their website here or the tripadvisor here.
The course will largely be run on court, at the Playa de San Juan beach courts. These are located next to the distinctive multi-coloured beach huts on the sand of the beautiful Playa de San Juan, Alicante’s mecca for beach volleyball. We are working with local club Arena Voley Playa, who will help us by providing equipment and maintaining the nets and courts to provide a perfect training environment. The sea is just a 20m run from the courts for a post-session dip, there is a café right next door to sit and have food or a drink when you aren’t playing.
In case of bad weather and for our theory seminars we will be using Hotel Castilla. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the courts and there is a tram station right next door with regular trams into the city.
There are regular flights from all over Europe to Alicante airport. Once you have landed, you have two options:
1. Taxi/transfer. This takes around 30 minutes and costs around €40 each way (we recommend you share, we will set up a WhatsApp group in advance to help organise this)
2. Airport bus -> Tram. You can take the C6 airport bus to the town centre, followed by a tram or bus to Playa San Juan. This costs around €10 per person and takes just over an hour, depending on the connection.
The #CoachAcademy is open to players and coaches of all levels. It is designed to be four days where we share learning and good practice, talk and discuss coaching, expand our beach volleyball network and get lots of opportunities to try out new ideas, drills and exercises.
We therefore welcome both newer and more experienced coaches and we guarantee that everyone gets lots out of the experience.
The minimum age to attend is 14. Anyone aged between 14 and 16 will leave with the Fireball Young Leader Award.
