About the Performance Squad
Our junior performance squad is designed to help the development of junior players from across England and Wales by providing them regular high-quality training from top national team coaches and players. It is open to young players from 13-20 looking to improve their game. They need to have at least one year’s beach playing experience and be committed and willing to learn.
The programme consists of three key elements:
We will run training days at three different locations throughout the winter period: in Croyde, Cardiff and Kidbrooke. Each day generally starts at 10am and finishes around 4:30pm. We have shelter available at each venue for poor weather. Every day consists of 2 x technical sessions (90 minutes) and 1 x gameplay session (90 minutes). We have a maximum ratio of 1 coach to 8 young people. All coaches have a minimum of a Volleyball England Assistant Coach Award and are DBS checked.
Month 1 dates:
Month 2 Dates:
January-March dates will be released later in October.
We are planning two training trips to Alicante:
The young people would need to request time off from school for these trips; we can provide supporting documents. These are excellent chances to work on their game in warmer weather with some excellent coaches. They will stay in apartments with DBS checked, safeguarding trained staff. The young people would be expected to help with some of the cooking and cleaning during the week. The trips include accommodation, food and coaching but you are expected to book flights.
Ongoing Sports Psychology and Performance Talks
Fortnightly Zoom seminars throughout the year. One of these will be performance-linked with head coach Sam Dunbavin and other guest speakers; the other will be on sports psychology with trained sports psychologist Ryan Lark. Performance topics include sports nutrition, injury prevention, season planning, game analysis, scouting and more.
Parents are essential to a child’s success- whether it is planning their season, getting them to training, feeding them or more. We will run monthly Zoom calls for parents on topics such as injury management, season planning, nutrition. We will also have a parents WhatsApp group where you can ask questions.
You can choose to add on regular one-to-one mentoring for your child with Sam Dunbavin or another top Fireball coach of your choice. This consists of a 30-minute video call each month and ongoing WhatsApp access.
